FAQ

Welcome to Ovations Performing Arts. We are excited to welcome you to the Ovations family of performing artists! Our mission is to develop your child's confidence and performance skills while having a lot of fun. At Ovations we build everlasting friendships, we promote kindness, teamwork and make every cast member feel valuable.

We want to give you the information you will need. If you don't find your answer here, please approach anyone from the Ovations team with questions, or just to say hi! We love feedback and look forward to building a relationship with you.

  • I (or my child) auditioned, now what?"
The casting directors will take into consideration all of the auditions and experience level of each child and will deliberate during the week to cast the show. We will email the cast list the day before the first rehearsal. That way if anyone is disappointed with their role they can deal with their emotions in privacy. We encourage parents to always be positive when approaching this conversation and explain that all roles are important in the success of a show and everyone will have fun being part of such a wonderful production.
  • Will you be sending home information?
All information will be given via email! We will post all necessary documents in Google Docs AND Dropbox for your access. All of the rehearsal tracks will be emailed to you using Google Docs. You can import them into iTunes or other media players. We may also post choreography videos to help practice at home.
  • Can you tell me more about shows?
Shows are the main reason we do what we do. Please check your calendar for availability to make sure you will be here for all tech, dress rehearsal, and show dates! Most dates are mandatory and should be checked to make sure you don't have any future conflicting events. We endeavor to try and accommodate conflicts where we can, but sometimes this is not always possible. It’s a team effort and we need all of our cast for it to be a successful show. For shows, performers will need to wear a nude or black leotard, nude tights, and black jazz shoes or flats (unless the directors ask for something different per character). We will give you more information about this when we get closer to show time.
  • How do I help?
We’re so glad you asked! We always appreciate help with costumes, sets, props, etc. More information about this will be provided in due course.
  • How do I pay tuition?
Tuition is due upon registration. You may pay by check (made out to Ovations Performing Arts), Venmo (@Ovations-Arts), or cash (in person), or by credit card online. Talk to us if you require a phased payment plan.
  • What do we need for rehearsals?
    1. Performers should dress comfortably, in clothing that allows for movement modestly. 2. Shoes should be closed-toed for performers’ safety. No flip-flops, slippers, or bare feet. 3. Bring water and a snack. 4. Bring your script and a pencil/highlighter pen. Note: Please put your performer’s name on the script. Replacements cost are $20 dollars plus shipping.
  • What happens during rehearsals?
Typically rehearsals begin the Thursday after the casting list is finalized. Rehearsals will include choreography, blocking, acting skills, vocal coaching, and more. They are generally 2 hours long and include a water and snack break. We ask that parents not attend rehearsals because we like our performers to feel free to learn and discover independently. This is a great opportunity to spend time with other parents in the community. Grab a coffee, run an errand, or enjoy some shopping time. Ovations is conveniently located near Target, Walmart, and other major stores and shopping centers in Rancho Santa Margarita.
  • When are musical theater rehearsals?
Musical theater rehearsals are typically on Thursdays from 5-7PM. Extra rehearsals for specific work are typically on Thursdays from 4-5PM. A calendar should be emailed to you around the same time as the casting list is posted. If anything is changed, you will be emailed. If additional rehearsals are needed, they may take place on Tuesday from 5-7PM in lieu of competition choir rehearsals, but you will be notified if this happens.
  • When are competition choir rehearsals?
Competition choir rehearsals are typically on Tuesdays from 5-7PM. Please note these rehearsals may contain musical theater rehearsals as well, depending on upcoming shows - you should be notified if this happens.
  • Is there going to be lots of “Drama”?
We love drama, but only on the stage! We ask that all conversations be positive and uplifting to our students, staff, and families. We love theater and we love to see your students grow and thrive. The only way we can ensure a fun and educational environment is for them to open up their creative side and feel like there will be no judgment or negativity. If you have questions or concerns about our program or with our staff, the lines of communication are always open. We seek JOY and positivity in all we do, and we strive to always send your kids home with a smile!
